APPLICATIONS
Photo-Machining= the precision of photolithography + powder/abrasive blasting.
To selectively and precisely drill thru-holes or blind-holes, form channels & patterns, and create mesas/raised posts on a variety of brittle substrate materials including:
- Alumina
- Alumina Silicate
- Aluminum Nitride
- Anodized Aluminum
- Boron Carbide
- Boron Nitride
- Carbon Fiber
|
- Ceramic Composites
- Ferrite
- Glass
- Plated/Painted Materials
- Graphite
- Mullite
- Quartz
|
- Silicon Carbide
- Silicon Nitride
- Steatite
- Titanium Nitride
- Zirconia
- Zerodur
|
With these materials, Photo-Machining can perform:
Pattern Creation: to micro-machine features, patterns and markings down to 0.002" (50 μm) in size.
Hole Drilling: to quickly make thru-holes or blind-holes in thin materials. Fragile workpieces will not experience the chips or breakage associated with other machining methods, and all surfaces are fully protected throughout the process.
Large Area Removal: to quickly remove significant material on a large workpiece (up to 500µm in diameter). Work area or work piece size limitations inherent to CNC and ultrasonic machining are not an issue with Photo-Machining.
Marking/Part Identification: to mark, label or scribe workpieces making them indelibly identifiable.
Surface Texturing/Finishing: to abrade most surfaces creating unique surface patterns; prepare the surface for a future coating process; and/or, produce a variety of surface finishes.
Coating Removal: to selectively remove coatings generating detailed and complex patterns as required on thin precious metal coated ceramics, anodized aluminum and many other surfaces.
CONCLUSION
IKONICS Photo-Machining provides an alternate, unique approach to the creation of patterns and other features on the surfaces of high density and brittle materials. We know our process will save you time and money. We will work with you in the development of new designs through prototyping and scale-up to production. Photo-Machining is a highly accurate and precision process, and while it does not displace conventional machining, it will outperform in many applications. Remember, our process fully protects delicate materials/coatings from start to finish and we are able to handle extremely thin substrate parts. Contact us today and our trained technical Sales and Engineering staff will be gladly answer your questions and assist with your projects. |
